A CAREER criminal who broke a pensioner’s jaw and stole her handbag while on bail for burglary was today behind bars. Serial mugger Lee Evans, 38, was jailed for eight-and-a-half years for robbing the frail 73-year-old outside her home in Birkenhead. Described as “one of our most prolific offenders” by police, Evans, of Woodchurch Road, Birkenhead, repeatedly punched his victim before making off with her bag. He said: “He took advantage of this woman while she was busy unpacking her car outside her home and viciously assaulted her several times, all to steal her handbag. “He put her through an awful ordeal and inflicted injuries and emotional trauma which she is still coming to terms with now .Mulberry Handbags. “It is an indication of the type of man he is that only four days earlier he had burgled a nursing home, stealing purses out the handbags of staff who were busy caring for their elderly residents. ” Evans targeted the woman, who police said is too terrified to be named, on December 7 last year when she was getting something out of her car in Palm Grove. He hit her in the face and several times in the body as he wrestled her for the handbag, which contained her mobile phone. The court also heard how on December 3, Evans walked into a nearby nursing home in Reservoir Road having tried several locked doors. Once inside he was caught on CCTV going into both the laundry room and staff room before helping himself to a purse inside a handbag left on a chair.

He was then filmed calmly walking out of the nursing home onto the street. He was arrested later that day by police who recognised him as a prolific offender. DCI McCaughrean added: “Lee Evans is a career criminal and one of our most prolific offenders. “He has been in and out of custody most of his life and is an opportunist who sadly will deliberately target the most vulnerable or trusting members of our community. “We can deter criminal behaviour like this however by neighbours looking out for each other, especially the elderly, keeping our homes secure, not letting strangers in and by reporting any suspicious activity to the police. ” .Mulberry Bags
